How We Fix It
Ladonia has around 1,332 households, which keeps the work pretty consistent from one job to the next instead of a grab-bag of door ages and brands. We pull the door down on the winding bars so the springs aren't fighting us, slide the old rollers out of the track one at a time, and swap them for new ones while the track is open and we can see what's actually worn versus what just looks rough. If the track itself is bent or the bracket holding it is bent from a roller that seized years ago, we straighten or replace that piece too, because a new roller in a bad track just wears out again in a year. We test the door through a full open-close cycle before we leave, watching for binding at the curve where the vertical track meets the horizontal. On most of the doors we see out here, this is a half-hour to an hour job once we're on site, not counting drive time.
What Can Go Wrong
The median house in Ladonia was built around 1983, which puts a lot of original steel rollers still running on steel track with no nylon in the system at all. Steel-on-steel wears fine for years, then wears fast, and once the roller wheel gets a flat spot you start hearing a thump on every cycle instead of a roll. On doors from that era we also sometimes find rollers with worn-out bearings inside a stem that otherwise looks okay, so the roller spins loose on the stem and walks sideways in the track. That sideways walk is what eventually pulls a bracket loose or scores the inside of the track enough that a new roller still won't sit right. We check for that before quoting a straight roller swap.
The Cost of This Job
We don't publish a flat price here because roller jobs vary by how many rollers are shot, whether the track needs straightening, and whether anything upstream - a cable, a hinge, a bent panel - is contributing to the wear. What we can tell you is that with median household income in Ladonia around $52,045, we quote the job plainly before we start, steel or nylon, parts and labor broken out, and we don't push a full door replacement on you if a roller swap will do the job. A full roller set replacement is a fraction of a new door, and for most of the 1980s-stock doors out here it's the right fix.
What Is on the Truck
We carry both sealed-bearing nylon rollers and heavier-duty steel rollers, because what's right for a worn 1980s steel-track door isn't always what's right for a newer setup. We also carry replacement roller brackets and short sections of track, since a job that starts as
